Racers go on about it all the time, PWA pros are totally in to it and if you are not doing it all winter long then you are looking at tricky season ahead, so what exactly is tuning? We asked Josh Angulo for his 4 top tips to get you started in the world of windsurf tuning.
1 – TOW
First and foremost TOW (time on the water)… Sometimes it’s not even planing weather, but if you get a couple gusts and pump onto a plane, that will help you over time. I lack a bit with my TOW, so I know how important it is.
2 – One Step at a Time
Try stuff, but only make one change at a time… For example, don’t add downhaul and move your mast foot at the same time. Do one, test it then the other. It’s very easy to think you know what one will do so you can also apply the other at the same time but they always affect each other.
3 – What’s Right is Wrong
Unfortunately a good setting is not the best setting in all conditions…Be prepared to reanalyze your settings depending on the conditions ( but don’t over think it). Sounds easy doesn’t it 🙂
4 – Never Stop
Make sure to continuously try new things in different conditions because without ruling out something you will never know if it was faster or not and what might not work for others may work for you.
