The end of day two here in Tenerife and, whilst the conditions might not have been epic, the wind and waves came through enough to run yet more competition.
In the women’s fleet it’s the ‘usual’ final top four, with Daida and Iballa Moreno who are joined by Steffi Wahl and Amanda Beenen. Tomorrow these four will do battle to decide who takes top honours.
In the men’s fleet the trials were completed (full list of the winning trial sailors below) and then it was onto the main competition.
It was clear in the marginal conditions it was going to be close in all of the heats, and there was almost a good few upsets.
The likes of Swift, Skye and Voget all started off their heats with their opponents putting in good jumps and waves straight off the bat, but their experience showed through as their heats continued and they built up more and more scores.
Heats of the day have to go to Moritz Mauch and Klaas Voget, who both got the top wave scores – Klaas getting wave upon wave, one with a front side aerial. Moritz linked together a great wave too, just getting some of the biggest hits we’ve seen all day.
Tomorrow morning the competition is due to kick off early doors with some good wind predicted, and it’s THE heat of the first round first up. Jaeger Stone vs Ricardo Campello… place your bets now!
The trials have been completed with the following riders making it through into the main event:
Martin ten Hoeve
The trials are the order of the day today here in Tenerife, they will take priority and as we are now passed low tide (at 3pm) the waves are set to increase on the push. We should have some live and very exciting action to watch within the next couple of hours, so stay tuned…
The wind and waves are increasing here in PWA Tenerife on day two of the competition. Fingers crossed we can get more women’s rounds completed today, plus the trials.
