With PWA Fuerteventura just days away Boardseeker finds out the inside gossip from the UK’s Adam Sims…
Who’s looking good?
Most promising so far has been Steven Van Broeckhoven, Kiri Thode, Dieter Van Der Eyken and Anthony Ruenes. We haven’t seen much of Tonky or Taty on the water yet but Steven seemed to be in a class of his own, just real hardcore power freestyle at its best.
Moves of the moment?
It is pretty noticeable that the Pasko will be in 50% of the fleets repertoire by the time the comp comes around. Half the guys are doing them and landing them 1 in 2 so we should see a lot of this move this year. There is some talk of potential developments on that move but you’ll have to tune into the feature at the end of the week. I can’t reveal any new moves until the day before as the riders are keeping them very close to their chest. Some moves may not be possible in the competition, it will really depend on the conditions… Tune into boardseekermag.com on Friday for that feature.
Other than myself (Adam has twisted some ligaments in his foot, fingers crossed he’ll be back windsurfing in time for the competition!) there have been a couple others, nothing too serious except Phil Soltysiak who dislocated his shoulder yesterday. He does it often so for him it isn’t too much of a problem but Steven Van Broeckhoven had to put it back in for him on the water yesterday, now Phil will rest until the competition and continue his physio. Aside from that nothing too much to report apart from a few bits of broken kit.
Who’s not there yet or hasn’t sailed?
Gollito has yet to show his face but judging but the Live stream at PWA Pozo he is also on form and training moves like the Pasko. Sarah-Quita arrived in the last two days and made it out for a short session, no doubt she will be on the water more today. All the Bonaire guys arrived in the last day or two and are all on form. Bjorn Saragoza has some unbelievable pop on a lot of his moves. The UK guys, Max Rowe and Bubble are yet to appear but I think they will be here shortly and no doubt ready to charge into the top 16.
Who else is looking good?
Balz Muller! This guy is sending himself into just about every form of insane move he can think of, including some kind of culo diablo/clew first air chachoo thing?! As much as he crashes he is also landing some pretty big moves! It is quite impressive to watch. Oscar Carmichael from the UK has some pretty big moves in the bag as well and should he land them in the competition he could really do some damage, especially with some power moves both ways in the bag.
Stay tuned for more Fuerte action, coming soon a run down of the title contenders and the latest moves that could secure the title.
