So today saw light winds across the event area. The winds built enough to tease the slalom sailors to the water, with many going out for a few a warm up runs. Despite this it just wasn’t quite enough for the PWA to officially start competition.
One unusual face on the water was Kiri Thode. Having been sighted on slalom gear just once before this year, Kiri could be lining something up for the future. So we decided to ask him what his plans are concerning slalom and also a little about the 2014 Gaastra he was trying out.
Boardseeker: Kiri, you hit the water today, but not on your freestyle gear, how was it?
Kiri: Yeah it was great, the wind was light but I took a nice big sail and a wide board and still got to fly across the water.
Boardseeker: What gear were you using?
Kiri: I was on the new 2014 Gaastra sail, it’s super nice. It feels lighter in my hands and the power and balance is great, it makes the handling around the gybes real easy.
I also took the slalom board from starboard, the isonic 127, I already know this board well. It is so fast, I love it when the wind is light.
Boardseeker: So is there PWA slalom on the Kiri calendar for next year?
Kiri: Yeah man, I will go to Costa Brava, Turkey and the newly confirmed event in El Yaque, Venezula.
Boardseeker have heard strong rumours that an event for freestyle and slalom has been confirmed in El Yaque for March next year. We plan to bring you more on this development tomorrow.
