Margaret River set for another epic windsurfing competition, this coming weekend. Who will be victorious?
Margaret River is once again the venue for the Windsurfing Western Australia southern wave competition. The event will be held at main break, Margaret River this weekend, 8th and 9th February 2014. Categories will include elite, masters, open and ladies and will see the state’s best wave sailors compete at one of the world’s best and most consistent wave spots. Last years’ event saw mast high waves and 20 knots of cross offshore wind in near perfect conditions. Former Aussie world champion and Margaret River local Scott Mckercher beat Englishman Graham Woods in the elite final in an epic contest.
The conditions already look good for the weekend with 20-25kt cross-offshore winds and 2.5m swell forecast.
Weather permitting there will also be slalom and freestyle competitions at Australind on the Sunday.
The prize giving and party will be held at Wharnecliffe Mill, just outside Margaret River town on Saturday night. Camping is also available at Wharnecliffe Mill so you don’t have to stumble too far after the party. For more details and to register for the event and party go to www.windsurfingwa.org.au
