The Techno 293 fleet is the approved Olympic pathway for kids all around the world. One board, the Bic Techno 293, and a choice of sails, the idea is to keep the costs down and get the level high. With 2 age groups (U15 & U17) fighting it out, the idea is to provide a stepping stone towards the incredible competitive RS:X class.
This years European Championships took place in Civitavecchia in Italy and had a huge turn out of over 150 sailors. The Birts were well represented with 12 British team members plus another 4 independent sailors and were well rewarded with podium place in both the mens divisions.
In the under 17 (7.8 class) Sam Sills took the Silver medal despite suffering an illness before the event. Plus in the under 15 (6.8 class) Kieran Martin had his first taste of international success by taking the bronze medal.
Also worthy of note were Stuart Hards (6th), Joe Bennett (9th) and Jack Plummer (12th).
In the womens fleet Joanne Evens just missing out on the podium finishing a very respectable 4th place.
