The forecast was right, and yesterday the day woke up with some pretty nice Poniente wind.
The competition started just after one. The atmosphere at the beach was pretty chilled and friendly, all the riders had been away and haven’t seen each other in a while, so it looked more like a friends reunion than the first official competition of the European Tour.
From heat one all the sailors were putting all the moves into the show. Antxon Otaegui, who didn’t take part in the Tour last year, started strong, taking out in the earlier rounds Nikolas Akgazcyan and Niklas Strahlen.
Kevin Mevissen, testing his new gear (boards and sails from RRD) was looking good, making his way through heats all the way till the final. Remko de Weerd was one of his victims along the way.
The winner of the day was Normen Günzlein, who was solid through all the competition.
But the main surprise of the day was Michi Rossmeier. The Austrian sailor sailed confident and managed to get into the losers final, beating Andre Poskowski, ending up in the fourth position just behind Antxon Otaegui. Rossi was stoked about the result, and the smile on his face tells everything.
