Maui has gone from one extreme to the other. According to our sources after nearly 2 weeks of hardly any wind, its now blowing 30kts! Clearly its taken many of the sail companies by surprise and the worlds best have been out killing themselves on sails that are clearly too big.
Still the action was hot and with 2 helicopters in the air for most of the day there was always a show going on. Robert Teritahau turned up in the afternoon and was apparently clearly on a mission to impress. Wearing a impact vest he was hanging upwind waiting for a gust for at least half an hour. When he finally got it he flew out, hit a mast high wave, stalled until he was coming down, then sheeted in for a double. Nowhere near landing it, but you have to say the guy has balls!
All the usual suspects were ripping, with Boujma definitely putting on the best helicopter display. He apparently found the zone for half an hour, pulling massive airs, goitas and all with his usual killer style.
With the forecast for even bigger waves tomorrow the action should continue and with just about every brand still in shooting mode its going to be busy busy at Hookipa!
Unfortunately no pics of the action since everyone is on their new top secret gear, but keep checking boardseeker.com for some seek previews coming soon.
