The wind was pretty good and strong since early in the morning, so the single elimination started soon after the skippers meeting.
Even some of the sailors in the mens fleet were struggling to pull their moves in the strong winds.
Gollito, with a pretty serious injury on his foot, was fighting hard. He doesn’t want to let his title escape this year. And he made his way all the way to the final. Where he had to face the current world champion, Marcilio Browne. Gollito was sailing pretty sic and pulling some of his trademark moves like burners and huge shakas. But you could see he wasn’t on his best shape. In the end Marcilio got first. The losers final was between Norman Gunzlein and Tonky Frans. Tonky was superior to the German and got the third place in the first single elimination.
In the ladies, some big surprises happened in the early runs. Today it was definitely Yoli de Brendt’s day. She was on fire since the very first heat, but when she beat the current world champion Daida Ruano, she knew she could do well. She went all the way to the final.
But before that, the other surprise happened when Iballa Ruano won against the freestyle specialist Laure Treboux. This was a difficult situation. Due to some mistake, they had to re-run their heat. Laure had a pretty good heat on the first run of the heat, but lost her concentration in the re-run.
Junko Nagoshi, carries on with her succesful Canarian Tour, and made third against Iballa. And Sarah-Quita won the first place against Yoli but with a really close decision.
The double elimination is already underway, we will keep you updated tomorrow.
