North Sails has just released their 2009 Wave and Freestyle sails: the DUKE, the ICE and the EGO. These are the Power Wave-Freestyle, World Cup Wave, and Concept Wave sails for the next season and they have thought carefully every single detail.
The DUKE is the Power Wave/ Freestyle sail. Designed by people as physically different as Gollito Estredo and Bjorn Dunkerbeck, this sail can cover every sailor needs from flat water to big waves. The 2009 DUKE is less nervous and better when pumping thanks to the reduced sail foil tension. The foot profile has been reduced for better handling and also, thanks to the iMODULAR.DESIGN the weight has been reduced. The DUKE has a great planning potential combined with maximum handling and good controllability.
The ICE is the World Cup Wave Sail. Designed and made to be ready for any kind of condition the sailors might find in competitions. This sail gives the best performance in any kind of waves conditions thanks to an optimized profile; a slightly set back centre of effort and a reduced sail foil tension. The reduced foot profile makes this sail “…a true handling miracle, especially when descending the wave” as the North Sails riders describe it. One mast fits all the sail sizes (MINIMUM.AST.COMCEPT) what is quite a good point when buying new sails (maximum performance with SDM masts). They have also introduced for the first time in this sail a reduced sail foil tension, making the sail a bit more elastic and easier to pump and control. Also a new less nervous top thanks to the modified HIPER.LEECH, and a lighter weight thanks to the iMODULAR.DESIGN make this sail better than ever before for any wave sailing conditions you might find.
And finally, the EGO is the CONCEPT WAVE. It is a completely new type of wave sail, designed for the innovative riders. The EGO represents for North Sails “a symbol of innovation“. It is the sail that replaces the eternal classic VOODOO sail. Kai Hopf has developed the BALANCED.LUFF.LENGTH, a precisely balanced ratio of luff length to boom length. “..as short and compact as possible for radical handling and as long as necessary for decent twist, ensuring a maximum wind range”. The EGO, as a good successor of the VOODOO, has been designed as a hardcore sail, and therefore all the smaller sizes have a window panel made of large-meshed Heavy Duty Xply, while the arge sizes starting at 5,3 are made with monofilm for weight reasons. The EGO is the first sail designed exclusively for RDM masts.
