Day 1 of the Tiree Wave Classic kicked off at lunch time today with some great conditions; cross shore, from the right and head high waves in the sets. Perfect for the amateurs, women and the masters, whilst the pros were put on hold and sent downwind for some high quality free sailing.
Gusty winds were making jumping difficult, so the judges were just looking for wave rides. The best waves were giving 3 or 4 turns down the line, with powerful top turns and aerials giving the best scores.
In the womens it was Boardseeker editor and 3x womens UK champion, Louise emery who took the win, followed by newcomers Sarah Bibby and Sarah Finney in 2nd and 3rd.
The masters saw Keith Shorrocks take the win from Big Davey, the current champion. Big Davey didn\’t look happy and will for sure fight back throughout the rest of the week. Taking 3rd in the masters was Nigel Treacy.
The scottish legend and favorite for the amateurs, Scotty McDowell had an early exit in round 1, leaving the door wide open for the rest of the fleet to get on top. Sam Darkin took maximum advantage, patiently waiting for the best sets to take the win.
All this action and only in only half a day. With loads of wind forecast for the rest of the week and some good waves coming we are sure to get plenty more action so stay tuned.
