For those that haven\’t tried slalom, it is some of the best fun you can ever have in windsurfing. Who doesn\’t like to go fast? What better way to test your gybing than with a buoy?
Whether you are an experienced racer or a first timer, Hayling Island Sailing Club are organising a winter slalom series for everyone. From this Sunday, 1st February, and for the next 5 sundays, they are running up to 5 master blaster style races per day, with legendary race officer Mark Woods.
Also running from the club will be speed events. At low tide, with a westerly wind, the water is as flat as you get and offers the perfect place to break your speed records. The speed will be on standby with a short notice 48 hour call made on the forecast. With the inclusion of boats too, there will be someone to race whatever your level.
The cost is a very reasonable £10 per day for slalom or £50 for the whole thing, including speed. A total bargain considering you have full use of all the clubs facilities, such as hot showers, changing rooms and a bar/restaurant which has a full carvery lunch on offer.
There is also one more event to put in the diary. April 10th sees the return of the legendary “Round the Island Race”. This was once one of the biggest events in the country, and following the interest in races like the Fatface event, could be back to its old glory!
The forecast looks good for this weekend so get down there to join in the fun. For more information check out the www.HISC.co.uk
