Cape Verde Finals

Today saw epic conditions at Punta Preta as the double elimination got underway. Over mast high in the sets and peeling down the point, making it even better than the legendary event of 2007.

Standouts in the double were undoubtable Ross Williams and Brawzinho. Both went from last position all the way through to finally face each other to see who would go on to the final heats. Brawzinho won that battle, but full credit must go to Ross who took down the very best of the starboard tack riding rippers. Levi Siver, Jason Polakow, Nik Baker and Robby Swift were just some of the names he beat on his way through. Massive well done to Ross.

Brawzinho was with Ross the whole way through, also beating all of the above, plus he then went on to beat Goya, before losing out to Kevin Pritchard and finally finishing in 4th place.

Kevin then went against Josh, but couldn\’t match the local knowledge and remained in 3rd place, which left Josh to go head to head with Kauli in a repeat of the first years final.

First blood went to Josh, despite Kauli landing a goita on the wave, which then meant the two had to head back out for a second heat to decide the winner for 2009. Despite both sailors going on the rocks in the heat, they still had time for massive airs, a goita from Kauli and performances said to be “best ever”. The winner by a very tight margin was Josh Angulo, meaning the locals could celebrate in true fashion!

Well done to Josh and expect a massive party in Cape Verde!!
