We need to give something back. Windsurfers are a special group of people. Most of us share a passion for the nature and the sport that fulfils our lives. So it is time to give something back, to thank for how lucky most of us are. And here we have the chance.
Windsurfing4CancerResearch is an organization founded by David Tuttlebee, who is facing his second fight against cancer. The idea behind W4CR is to raise money towards Cancer research and education about the disease.
The Windsurfing4CancerResearch (W4CR) team are seeing a steady stream of windsurfers and kitesurfers registering for the FREE TO ENTER fun event on Sunday 3 May but they are ready, with just over a month to go, for the big rush. Full details on the event website www.sunrisesunset.ws.
Windsurfing4CancerResearch is looking for windsurfers and kitesurfers to register for the inaugural event for the charity to be held on 3 May. The launch venue is at Hayling Island with matching events to be held at 13 venues at least around the UK in Ireland and 2 in Holland! A large turn out is expected, in particular at Hayling Island to join Dave White who will be on the water from Sunrise. Dave is fronting the event for David Tuttlebee.
“I am going to Windsurf on 3 May 2009 at Hayling Island to raise money
for Windsurfing4CancerResearch (W4CR) who will use it to help fund
cancer research, education and support. On the day there will be large
groups of sailors at Hayling Island and many other venues around the
country and we hope to record the largest flotilla of sailing craft
ever assembled for a single cause. Please sponsor me generously!”
“You organise it, and I\’ll sail it. Simple words, but they mean more than their sum. Being the birth spot of speed, Weymouth has launched more than it\’s fair share of challenges, but in 2008 I witnessed the start of a challenge that can be truly life changing.
Doctors confirmed that David Tuttlebee had cancer, heart-breaking news for anyone, but this was the second time he\’d had to receive such news. He\’s already fought and won a battle with the big C, and was planning a fund raising challenge to help others in their battles.
Amazingly it was the threat against this plan rather than the impact on his life that appeared to worry him most. Having lived with the treatment and mental anguish that accompanies it, I saw my chance to say thanks to those who helped me, and return a favour to a friend.
Sharing our experience does help, if nothing else, just getting a heads up to what\’s coming next can take the fright of finding your hair laying next to you when the morning wakes you. But what David wanted was more than a friendly ear, but someone to fill his foot straps on the water.
That honour is mine, I\’m proud to be able to support his event, Sunrise Sunset 2009. I\’ll be taking to the water off Hayling Island at first light on the May 3rd, hopefully many of you will be able to join me, if not in person, then in spirit on your own beach.
But while we can share the experience, we\’d want to see others come through their battle and return to the water, and the best way we can do that, is open our wallets. By supporting me both on and off the water, we can raise the funds to make that battle a little easier
Thanks for your support
