Baja, Mexico has been on the radar for years, but the relatively inaccessibility of the spot means it remains quieter than many other locations. Tanya Saleh and Sam Neal, both Neil Pryde Group UK riders made the journey out there and are currently loving life. Tanya gives us her report on the trip so far:
“I\’ve wanted to come here for years but never quite made it. Now that I\’m here I can\’t believe that I didn\’t come sooner. It really is all that it is hyped up to be. A super chilled down the line set up that goes on and on and on – turn after turn after turn!
Yeah you have to rough it, but Solo Sports have made it far more relaxing than it used to be 10 years ago. Kevin Trejo and his 5 man band take care of everything for you: from getting there, to cooking, tents, even a full supply of tequila.
Also training down here is a moderate US contingent made up of fellow JP/Pryde sailor, Tyson Poor, Casey Hauser (Maui Sails, Tabou) Brian Metcalf (Windwing, Tabou, Dakine, Gultech) and Canadian sailor Ingrid Larouche (Maui Sails, Tabou)
All of the regulars decided to initiate us into the “Baja fog” crew last night – an evil concoction of Corona, teqila and lime, which curses the wind if you don\’t down it in one go. Needless to say we were a little late hitting the water today.
We have only been here a couple of days but will keep you posted on all the action from Mexico. For now we have been settling in, and Sam has been becoming acclimatised with the local wild life. It has been rather entertaining watching him squirm and scream everytime a small desert mouse comes looking for food. “
