News Headlines – Thu 5th

It\’s always a pleasure to report on a spot of British success, and no more so than when it\’s youngsters performing on a world stage. And the Hibdige brothers have been doing exactly that at this year’s Starboard IFCA ProKids Windsurfing World Championship held at Sorobon Beach, Bonaire. Big brother Sam, 17, claimed 3rd in the men\’s slalom and 2nd in the under-20s, while 14-year-old Nic took second U15 freestyle in the light winds and won the under-15 flowstyle. More here and here

Flowstyle?!? That\’ll be light wind freestyle \’windsurf dancing\’ then – as ably demonstrated here by leading grown-up exponent of the discipline, Starboard / NeilPryde rider Caesar Finies. Nice!

Talking of youth success on the world stage, Britain\’s Emma Labourne is on her way back from the IWA Martigues 2010 World Championships as Vice Techno 293 Under 15 Girls World Champion. Great going – and definitely one to watch for the future…

One to watch much sooner now, as Nick Dempsey is well ensconced in TeamGBR digs just a mile up the road from home in Weymouth ready for this weekend\’s Skandia Sail for Gold, the last of 2010\’s RS:X World Cup Series. More here, and follow his progress on the event site here

Onto slalom, and over to Hawaii where Maui Sails are pretty proud of their riders\’ performance in the Hawaii State Slalom Championships rounding up the Maui Race Series last weekend. Phil McGain took the men\’s pro, Tamara Bockius the women\’s open, and Mike Yasak the men\’s 50-59 age group.

Boylo\’s windsurfing store down in Devon has just launched a new special offers section on their website with up to 50% off on Balin clothing, as modelled here by the one and only Muzza.

And finally, as the trees have been rustling all week spare a thought for three Sussex riders who can\’t get out to enjoy it – Dave \’Vinnie\’ Standing has aggravated a dislocated shoulder from last autumn and is in for an op next week, Sarah Bibby\’s foot still isn\’t bearing weight, and Ant Baker seems to have turned recluse with his dodgy rib-cage. Get well soon guys…
