La Reunion Wave Classic 2010 is continuing to fire with a team battle and best trick expression session completed since our last update. Later today they\’ll be holding a kids windsurfing clinic in St Pierre – giving something back, as ever. So today\’s movie, fresh from the umi Pictures cameras, is the teaser of their \’must-see\’ event spectacular. Everything from pure down-the-line barrels to killer ramps and strong winds. Enjoy!
Back home, there\’s still no official word from the UKWA Freestyle and BSA Slalom at Worthing over the weekend, but we understand Mat Pearch and Ant Baker took first and second respectively on equal points in the slalom. As for the freestyle, according to Adam Sims he was beaten into second by Will Rogers. And according to first placed youth Sam Conroy, he and Adam shared that second spot. There are some movie snippets to prove it was blowing here and here… We\’ll confirm all this conjecture as soon as we see some cold, hard facts!
We\’ve just heard that Morroccan wave maestro Boujmaa Guilloul is heading to the UK for this weekend\’s National Windsurfing Festival on Hayling Island. See Dave Hackford\’s announcement – and if you\’ve not yet secured your spot at the event yet, good luck with that! Entries may still be available via www.nationalwindsurfingfestival.com
Talking of national events, the British Wavesailing Association have announced a new contest on this year\’s calendar – the BWA Welsh Championships 2010 will be held at Havensports, Broadhaven in Pembrokeshire on the first windy weekend in November. With sponsorship from Funsport, Pura Vida, ION, O\’Shea, Fanatic, North, Simmer Style and Mistral, this fully amateur competition aimed at all comers from across the UK promises to be the biggest amateur event of the year. From national to continental, and Kona European Championship has been won by a woman! Former IMCO World Champion Perinne Messialle from France delivered a stunning performance to become the first Kona European Champion … and we think the first girl ever to claim a major title in a mixed-sex fleet. Onto new kit now, and Goya have launched their 2011 range of sails (“lighter and brighter than ever before”) and boards (“expect yourself going further” … whatever that means!). They certainly look the business though – especially the new Custom Quad.
And finally, our technique guru Jem Hall has just got back from what looked like an epic couple of weeks in Baja. Check out the movie by modern multi-media man Dave White. Conditions look awesome, email Jem to offer any hints or tips on his riding technique (or if you\’d rather vice-versa, probably best you book a clinic with him…)
