No wind materialised at the Colgate Windsurf World Cup Sylt yesterday, and although the racers do have a bit of wind way offshore to pin their hopes on it\’s looking like the same story today. But in the absence of breeze Head Judge Duncan Coombs called the now traditional jet-ski tow-in competition. \’King of Pop\’ Steven Van Broeckhoven took the prize (of a Panasonic camcorder) with an awesome culo, Jose ‘Gollito’ Estredo claimed second with a clean air flaka and Taty Frans made third with a slick burner into flaka. More here.
So, direct from Sylt, today\’s flick is a showcase of wunderkind Philip Koster introducing action from yesterday\’s the no-wind freestyle tow-in session in the official PWA Day 6 movie…
Also on the world stage, three windsurfers have been nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2010. Headline news is World Champion Antoine Albeau in the men\’s category, but in the women\’s RS:X World Champion Blanca Manchon and Youth Olympic Gold medallist in the Techno class Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam represent half of the field. ISAF Member National Authorities will decide the eventual winners, so fingers crossed!
Starboard have launched a board finder on their site in an effort to simplify the process of choosing from their exhaustive line-up. Problem being, windsurfing\’s broad church still splits down into some 14 categories. Nothing\’s ever easy, eh?
On to UK competition now, and British eyes are now on the tiny Hebridean island of Tiree for the Wave Classic at the end of next week (9-15 October 2010). Get yourself in the mood at the relaunched website.
And then a fortnight later, it\’s wagons roll down to Cornwall for the BWA Cornwall Classic on Halloween weekend (29-31 October). More here.
And finally, our friend from across the pond The Peconic Puffin has been struck down with ivy poisoning! Nasty – but sounds like the steroids are working, so here\’s hoping he\’s back on the water very soon…
