News Headlines – Fri 29th

The BWA Cornwall Wave Classic kicks off today at Gwithian – the West Country wire\’s gone dead, but no news is usually good news in this case, so let\’s assume competition has got off to a good start! It looks to be blowing already, and there\’s certainly a big swell judging by the pictures of Ian Black from yesterday on the 5-Oceans blog.

With two more bullets on day 4 of the 2010 RS:X World Youth Championship, Izzy Hamilton seems to be in a commanding lead in the women\’s fleet, 17 points ahead of second place after nine races. In the men\’s, Connor Bainbridge has now climbed into a medal position in third place. More here – and see day 4 unfold for yourself below…

Onto speed now, and the ISWC have released the latest World Cup Rankings with Anders Bjorkvist (SWE) leading the men, followed by Steven Flanagan (IRL) and Andrea Baldini (ITA). In the women\’s Zara Davis (GBR) seems to be comfortably in charge going into the final event – the French Speed Classic in a fortnight at Port St Louis. Full rankings here.

Back to the waves, and over on Maui tweets from Ricardo Campello and Robby Swift are calling a potential Jaws session next week. With so many pros currently on the Valley Isle in training for PWA Cabo Verde, that ought to be some spectacle. See how this week\’s been going on Jimmie Hepp\’s Facebook gallery, Maui Watershoot, Maui Surf Report and Maui Windsurfing…

And from last weekend, here\’s a great movie of the one and only Robby Naish at Ho\’okipa on Saturday, courtesy of emerging filmmaker \’Happy Surfer\’ (with a bit of help from Hans Zimmer!)

Back in Europe, check this out from breakthrough freestyler Davy Scheffers at home on \’The Pool\’ at Brouwersdam in Holland. Some awesome power moves in 4m conditions including triple-spocks and huge skopus.

And finally, rewinding to Sylt where it looks like we\’ve overlooked a champion this year – it\’s unclear exactly what Lynn Antonia won, but fair play, she\’s beaten German star Bernd Flessner into third place for it! More on jp-australia.com
