News Headlines – Mon 8th

With PWA Cabo Verde due to kick off on Sunday, the world\’s best wavesailors are heading towards Sal for the finale of 2010 competition – hopefully in classic cross-off down-the-line conditions at Ponta Preta. Before leaving Maui, Robby Swift recorded, edited and posted this supreme Halloween reel of himself, Ricardo Campello and Antoine Albeau of the NeilPryde team preparing for the event. They\’re looking on decent form too…

Whilst we\’re on the subject of NeilPryde, they\’ve released a 40th anniversary limited edition wave sail based on the popular 2010 Zone – four sizes from 4.2 to 5.2m are touted as neutral, light weight and extremely manoeuvrable. More here. Only 400 are being produced, and you could win one simply by becoming a fan of their Facebook page. Good luck!

Luck? Marcilio Browne hasn\’t been blessed with too much of that recently – also in training on Ho\’okipa he twisted his knee on the 31st and has been in intensive treatment ever since. He\’s making a good recovery and still feeling positive for Cabo Verde though according to this interview with Franck Berthuot of www.mauiwatershoot.com

To the UK now, and Matthew Burridge of Cornish custom sail loft 5 Oceans has released United: another cracking movie of team riders Ian Black, Andrew Fawcett and Steve King on fire at a firing Gwithian. Super-windy and pretty solid too…

Steve Thorp released some good Gwithian action himself recently (check out Upton Towans here) with the aid of a very effective harness-mount made from a carbon race batten. It\’s sparked a lot of interest, so he\’s posted pictures of the assembly at www.stevethorp.co.uk in case you want to give it a go yourself…

Staying in Europe, check out some more \’typically Euro\’ conditions from WijkAanZee in Holland, featuring Martin Ten Hoeve amongst the locals revelling in some fine autumnal North Sea carnage.

Out in Miami, Florida, the fourth day of the Kona World Championships decided the champions in the various weight categories: Martin Bertilsson, Clara Baumann, Jonathan Rudich, Anna Groth, Juliano Scalabrin, Dominique Vallee, Carl Sjoberg and Bjorn Holm coming out on top. Full results here, and check out the action from day 4…

And finally, let\’s go retro Euro-poptastic with The Surfers – Windsurfing. The real scary thing being that this is no spoof – it\’s for real, from 1979, and was apparently a huge hit in Denmark. Sheesh!
