News Headlines – Tue 22nd

So, we\’re not even through the first quarter of 2011 yet, but Gaastra have stolen a march to become (we think!) the first brand to launch a 2012 product. Enter the new Munzlinger-designed Pure, a 4-batten pro freestyle rig billed as \’the freestyle magician\’ to replace their Echo LE. Leading rider Steven van Broekhoven is straight off to Dahab to show them off. Nowt on yet, but are carrying the news, and you can follow Steven\’s progress with them at

Elsewhere in North Africa, our first movie is from Morocco where Flo Jung hooked up with Boujmaa Guilloul to ride a monster swell last month. Enjoy!

Now for something completely different as today\’s second movie comes courtesy of Olympic bronze medal winning Bryony Shaw of a winter training session in Buzios, Brazil. Ultimate goal? Olympic gold in 2012. (We\’re sure we can\’t print how happy that would make her!)

From established RS:Xers to up-and-comers, and entries are now open for the RYA Volvo Youth National Championships 2011 at Hayling Island SC, 9-15 April – attended this year by none other than HRH The Princess Royal (that\’s Princess Anne, we think, who\’s certainly our favourite royal patron of sports!) More at and

Also on Hayling, it\’s just a month to go until the 2011 slalom series kicks off with the Tushingham / Starboard BSA Hayling Island Easter Slalom, 23-24 April. See you there? More at

Talking of events, a new GPS speedsurfing event called the Odyssey of Speed – in homage to the Greek hero Odysseus, obviously – has been called for Karpathos in Greece, 2-21 August 2011. Should be epic! More at and

But Starboard\’s big news is the relaunch of their fast freeride range, the Futura. Check out their \’impossible engineering\’ at

Brand new and relaunched online, Pro Limit have rebuilt their website from the ground up featuring their neoprene goodness and harnesses along with the latest news, movies and pics of their team riders. Check it out at

There\’s also an all-new Maui Fin Company website cataloguing their fins – as ridden by many of the great and good of international windsurfing, and standard with a fair few production boards too – and accessories at

And finally, one of those great sponsored riders in the shape of Diony Guadagnino has done something a little bit different with his fins. A few battered old foils become stencils for a \’fresh new door\’. it\’s certainly different… More carpentry and a bit of windsurfing too at
