Following yesterday\’s news of Boujmaa Guilloul\’s hospitalisation, we\’re pleased to see he\’s in good spirits after his calamitous triple-forward attempt – the likes of Ricardo Campello, Nayra Alonso, Kai Lenny have already visited him in hospital, and from Down Under Reflex Films has released this tribute movie: King of Pain! (And just to warn you, if needles make you queasy you\’d best skip the first minute or so…)
There\’s much more on the incident at mauisurfreport.blogspot.com, who are reporting that Guilloul has also been diagnosed with some broken bones in his hand and must remain in hospital for another night\’s observation on his lungs. But the good news, according to waterhound.com, is that Bouj\’s sponsors Starboard are going to step in to cover the $10,000 medical bill. Fair play to them. So, let\’s try and up their traffic a little today help pay them back. The Best of JC 2010 / 2011 gallery is a good click, with some stunning pictures of Timo Mullen, Taty Frans, Bjorn Dunkerbeck, Scott Mckercher and Caesar Finies – check it out at star-board.com
Of course, this crash has put Bouj out of the Oxbow Ride the Sky contest that\’s currently awaiting the perfect swell and wind for their GPS high-jump competition. A shame, as the Morroccan was surely one of the favourites having ruled the Shadowbox event last year. However, in common with 2010, epicsessions.tv will be streaming footage and live data online – it will be well worth tuning in once they\’ve made tha call to go on the Ride the Sky Facebook page.
Back in the UK, the British Wavesailing Association are gearing up for the first two stages of the 2011 Tour: Rhosneigr and Brandon Bay in less than a month. So now\’s the time to be sorting your logistics, as per their press release at boards.co.uk… More on the BWA at britishwavesailingassociation.com
Former British Wave Champ Rich Potter has just released his highlights from winter 2011 in Cape Town – now the Goya / K4 fins rider\’s hitting his doubles, if it blows he\’ll surely be a force to be reckoned with on the competition circuit this year.
Keeping it European, one of the most talked about summer destinations in recent years Prasonisi looks a bit different this season after a heavy winter of storms have opened up a channel between the Rhodes mainland and the islet. Now Christof Kirschner from the Pro Center reckons it will be much easier to sail between the two bays, and there should be much less weed and rubbish at the break. More at jp-australia.com
Let\’s look to Tarifa for another movie – here\’s Loft Sails\’ speedster NED-57 Ben Van der Steen ruling the strip at Campo du Futbol alongside Hugo Miravalles last month. More at loftsails.com
And finally, back to South Africa for proof that it\’s not all pros out there for winter training. Phil Horrocks put together this little anthology of Rhosneigr\’s Funsport Crew\’s exploits in December 2010. Remember – no pain, no gain guys… More at ripandslash.com
