News Headlines – Thu 19th

First up today, we hear Bjorn Dunkerbeck has edged into the lead at PWA Ulsan Slalom in South Korea on the penultimate day of racing this morning. It\’s still tight at the front though, with just over three points separating Dunky, Albeau and Angulo. Meanwhile in the women\’s fleet, less than three points separate Valérie Arrighetti from Lise Vidal and Sarah-Quita Offringa. So it\’s all to play for tomorrow (in the early hours UK time) – read the day 6 report and keep up at pwaworldtour.com

Talking of Bjorn Dunkerbeck, his main sponsors Red Bull are running an interesting little interview with the man himself – with tips and tricks on staying world-beatingly fit into his forties. Check it out at redbull.com

Taking first place in race five in Korea this morning, Josh Angulo let the world know about his plans to move to Boston on the US mainland in this PWA interview the other day – news which seems to be lighting up the East Coast windsurfing community … in fact the venerable Peconic Puffin can barely disguise his delight that Mr Angulo will be attending the East Coast Windsurfing Festival in a couple of weeks\’ time. Elsewhere in America, way over in San Francisco on the West Coast in fact, former UKWA star Xavier Ferlet won the first round of the Calcup Formula event last weekend at Berkeley. As ukwindsurfing.com report, he\’s keeping up his winning ways, beating a high-quality 20-strong fleet – and it looks like he might be getting back into the blogging too, judging by the newly renovated xavierferlet.blogspot.com

Also on the move, the biggest transfer news for a while comes from RRD who have just signed hardcore Canarian Dario Ojeda to their international team – and rather aptly, he\’ll be riding the Hard Core Wave range this year at Pozo and on the PWA Tour. More at insidertrrding.blogspot.com

And really on the move – covering 522km in a day, in fact – Jacques van der Hout is claiming to have broken a world record for the distance sailed in a single day. There\’s a challenge: 4.30am alarm call, two GT-31 GPSs, JP Slalom board, NeilPryde RS Racing Evo3 7.8 sail, Snickers and Red Bull – what more would you need?!? More at jp-australia.com and neilpryde.com

Now, let\’s have a bit of action – and thanks to hauft.at for this one, as commissioned by continentseven.com, here\’s the most complete action movie we\’ve seen from a pretty brutal looking PWA Freestyle as the thunderstorms swept through Podersdorf the other week.

And finally, fancy having a go at something just that little bit more approachable in the field of freestyle? Check out this flaka instructional from top coach Sam Ross – then get out there and give it a go: how hard can it possibly be? Loads more good stuff from Sam at sam-ross.co.uk
