News Headlines – Thu 26th

It\’s less than a week to go now until the world\’s largest mass-participation slalom festival – the legendary Defi Wind in the South of France. And with over 1000 competitors from more than 20 nations expected down in Gruissan this year, it promises to be another killer event. Even sooner than that – tomorrow if fact – it\’s the first round proper of EFPT freestyle at Milos Beach on the island of Lefkas, Greece, 27-29 May. More at efpt.net and milosbeach.gr – and we\’re expecting some great reportage from super-blogger Zakel too at zakel.ws

Just round the corner at Vassiliki, of course the Club Vass crew are hotly tipped for good results – and the latest big name instructor in town is also preparing for the event. Max Rowe and Bubble\’s newest amigo onto the PWA Freestyle Tour, Jamie Drummond has just started work instructing for brand-new multi-activity holiday specialists Ocean Elements in Vassiliki Bay – more at boards.co.uk and oceanelements.co.uk

Onto mainland Europe, and in Vienna, Austria, \’the Bridge\’ on the River Danube seems to be drawing an ever-stronger cult following. Up onto the north European coast, Witchcraft team rider Oli Pas is celebrating his win at the Belgian Twins Club Championships in Bredene last Sunday. More at witchcraft.nu – and read a translated Dutch report at swell.be

The other side of the Channel, 2XS / WWWC in West Wittering are reporting on a similarly windy Sunday with 65 people signed out at the club, smiling locals everywhere, plus Timo Mullen and \’90s men\’ Anderson and Du Val throwing big stalled forwards, backies and endos. More at 2xs.co.uk

In Holland, Going into a third windy day at the ISAF Delta Lloyd Regatta on the Ijsselmeer, Dorian van Rijsselberge leads the men\’s RS:X fleet from JP Tobin while Mayaan Davidovich and Jessica Crisp are in charge of the women\’s – with the majority of Olympic class sailors in Weymouth training for Sail for Gold though, there are unlikely to be many other favourites set to wrestle the tops spots away. And finally, flowindsurfing.com have announced their \’Hunk Off\’ showdown, inviting ladies of windsurfing to vote for their favourite hunk from the last year – it\’s between Dan Ellis, Jaeger Stone, Jesper Vesterstrom, Jamie Hawkins, Sam Ross, Adam Lewis and Elliot Dudley. Unsurprisingly, none of the men of Boardseeker are prepared to comment on who they might tip for the title!
