News Headlines – Thu 15th

There can be only one headline today, and that\’s that Philip Koster has secured his 2011 PWA World Wave Championship crown and the event win over Ricardo Campello in a decisive display of dominance off Danish shores at KIA @coldhawaii PWA Klitmoller. If you weren\’t watching the amazing live stream yesterday, you must watch this – the official day three highlights. Full double elimination details at pwaworldtour.com

Worthy of special mention, Thomas Traversa had the bit between his teeth to rattle his way up to third behind Victor Fernandez and ahead of Kauli Seadi. Meanwhile our British and Irish contingent also put on a great show – Ross Williams, John Skye and Phil Horrocks finished a strong =9th, while Jamie Hancock, Adam Lewis and Ben Proffitt were a creditable =17th. Unfortunately Timo Mullen was bottom of the pile in =33rd, while his brother Finn won a heat to finish =25th. But just because that\’s the end of competition doesn\’t make it the end of the action: tune into worldcup.coldhawaii.eu to catch the SURF Magazine Super-Session right now…

Traversa\’s board sponsor Tabou have chosen just the right time to launch their new convertible quad / thruster in the shape of the radical Tabou DaCurve Quadster – check out Thomas\’s new signature board at tabou-boards.com

That\’s not it for action movies today though – or champions for that matter – cos here\’s Josh Willmot\’s film from the final round of the UKWA Freestyle Tour at Poole Windfest last weekend. Max Rowe won the event (reaction from him at maxrowe.blogspot.com) but Adam Sims took the overall 2011 UKWA Freestyle title (check out his celebratory road trip at k669.blogspot.com). Changing disciplines now, and into the world of RS:X racing British up-and-comer Izzy Hamilton has started a new blog at izzyhamiltonwindsurfing.blogspot.com – we\’re looking forward to see her rise to glory unfold in years to come…

And finally, ever-so-slightly more established RS:X star Nick Dempsey has a bit of cross-discipline training coming up as he\’ll be pushbike racing alongside the Tour of Britain at the inaugural IG Markets Hot Lap in support of the Prostate Cancer Charity this Sunday 18 September. Good luck – and watch out for that chafing! More at volvocarssailing.co.uk
