Staying with our lead story this week, and yesterday proved to be close but no cigar at Weymouth Speed Week. There was enough wind to race, but with too few riders in the ISWC and UKWA fleets consistently exceeding 28 knots, day five didn\’t count as a qualifying round. With no wind today, nerves are tense as David Garrel and Kev Greenslade look to hang onto their Euro Tour and UKWA leads respectively. Find a full rundown of yesterday\’s speeds at speedsailing.com, a full write-up of the story so far at redsurfbus.com, and another full-on photographic shoot-em-up Dave White pic gallery at boards.co.uk
The next big British event is the finale of the BWA wavesailing tour at the Pura Vida Cornwall Wave Classic 2011 which starts a week tomorrow down at Gwithian. Registration is now open at cornwallwaveclassic.co.uk – and you can keep up with a few of the favourites on their blogs: Ben Proffitt\’s still not come down from his Tiree win at thewetdream.co.uk, while Skyeboy\’s scored Scotland, Wales and Cornwall over three days at skyeboy.blogspot.com, alongside Timo Mullen who tends to Tweet his life these days via @TimoIR69
Earlier this week we mentioned that Davy Scheffers has been named Dutch Freestyle Champion 2011 – there\’s more reaction on his site at davy-h311.nl … and now you can enjoy this movie of the event that clinched it for him, the Yogho Yogho NK Freestyle on the Amstelmeer thanks to sjoerdposthumus.nl
Young Davy also stars in this flick, alongside World Freestyle Champ Steven Van Broeckhoven (who has now published his Sylt summary at stevenvanbroeckhoven.com). So, from Egypt\’s Blue Lagoon, the Northern European pair provide Horen Stalbe with the answer to a big question: What Is The Wind?
Here\’s a man likely to supply a slightly different answer to that particular question – Polish racer Maciek Rutkowski alongside some of the best slalom flyers in the world at \’The Kebab Cup\’, PWA Turkey 2011, courtesy of Globetrotter Entertainment.
Meanwhile, returning to freestyle champions, it\’s hard not to think of 4-time world-beater Jose \’Gollito\’ Estredo. And Alexander Lehmann from German Windsurf Journal has posed him a fair few tricky questions on fanatic.com … essentially starting with “at 22, are you too old for freestyle now?” Ouch!
And finally, it\’s always good to end with a gratuitous bikini shot … but don\’t get too excited boys, as Tatiana Howard\’s homage to her Wings Hawaii number has more to do with what the fabric keeps covered up than any flaunting of female flesh. More at tatianahoward.com
