News Headlines – Wed 26th

It sounds like life got rough on Sardinia yesterday for the second day of racing at Windsurfing Cagliari 2011 where racers faced 20-knot winds and 3m swell in their quest for titles in the RS:X Youth Worlds, Techno 293 and Raceboard Masters Euros. We\’re stoked to see Britain\’s Techno girls on top of their fleets, with Emma Labourne leading a 44-strong under-17 pack and Emma Wilson having stormed four wins out of four to control the under-15s. Meanwhile GBR-49 Joe Bennett laughed off a broken mast to hold his place at the front of the under-17 RS:X fleet. The event finishes on Friday, and you can follow the fortunes of all fleets at windsurfing-cagliari2011.eu

Over in Miami, Florida, it sounds like there\’s been a bit of a kerfuffle at the IFCA North American Slalom Champs. Although Denmark\’s Kurosh Kiani was originally named winner of the pro fleet, a recalculation has meant that Brazil\’s Wilhelm Schermann actually pipped him to the prize by 1.07 points. Either way, Aussie Sean O\’Brien claimed third place at miamislalomseries.com

As we await the first day of the last round of AWT competition at the Maui Makani Classic tomorrow, pictures abound of some on-form athletes in training at Ho\’okipa. Brawzinho and Levi Siver are looking pretty hot on mauisurfreport.blogspot.com, Boujmaa\’s already trashed two masts and a boom at guilloul.com, and you\’d have to rate Graham Ezzy\’s chances at Ho\’okipa on surf-matic.com. As he suggests, remember to vote for your top 10 at americanwindsurfingtour.com for your chance to win this peachy prize from MauiSails

Back to Blighty, and Globalshots have published a full gallery from last weekend\’s SWA Student Windsurfing Festival 2011 at Roadford Water in Devon – and of course the \’X-Rated\’ Aussie Kiss X party. Naturally, as you\’d expect with Jay Haysey anywhere near it, the student world seems to be plastered in Globalshots logos at globalshots.co.uk – more soon from the SWA at studentwindsurfing.co.uk

NeilPryde have announced the winner of a 2012 Atlas sail in their latest picture comp as Hassan Rasheed for his Maldivean bodydrag – check it out on facebook.com

If you want to set yourself up for the next big photo competition, you could do a lot worse than investing in GoPro\’s latest offering – the HD Hero2 not only takes 11-megapixel stills, but now also boasts a wi-fi remote control, live streaming video functions and plenty more multi-media goodies for the princely sum of £299.99. More at gopro.com

Another new super-compact release comes from Italian sail brand Point-7 in the shape of their  new-school 4-batten Salt: “A new frontier wave sail that is built to destroy anything that Mother Nature throws at it…” Check it out at point-7.com

And finally, with the global media focus turning towards Cannes where next week\’s G20 Conference will try to avert the world\’s finances exploding in a puff of bad debt (more at g20-g8.com … if you can bear it!) it\’s refreshing to see another side of the French Mediterranean city. So thanks to Joe Meehan for this waveriding clip from Palm Beach – 1-2m swell and 20-30 knots: those world leaders really don\’t know what they\’re missing! More at joemeehan.blogspot.com
