News Headlines – Fri 28th

The AWT Maui Makani Classic is finally on at Ho\’okipa … it\’s just a shame the waves weren\’t yesterday, as the millpond Maui waters put the event straight on hold until 10am (local) today. There should be a little swell on the way though, according to locals like mauiwindsurfing.net, jaminjones.blogspot.com and surf-matic.com – and keep an eye on Steve Thorp on facebook.com for pictures and updates from our Midlander on Maui. More at americanwindsurfingtour.com – and if you come back here tonight (about 9pm in the UK we reckon) we\’ll find out whether today works out any better via the live webcast below…

Talking of Classics, we\’ve got a big one of our own brewing out in England\’s West Country at the BWA finale – the Pura Vida Cornwall Wave Classic. The weekend forecast just gets better and better on bigsalty.co.uk … although we\’d stake our last pasty on there not being enough for the pro\’s to get started with today. Keep an eye on boards.co.uk over the weekend for updates and pix from Jay Haysey of globalshots.co.uk. More at cornwallwaveclassic.co.uk

Going in to the last day of Windsurfing Cagliari 2011 on Sardinia for the Euro Technos, Raceboard Masters, and World Youth RS:X Champs and we\’ve got plenty of British hopes for silverware. Good luck Emma Wilson (1st Techno under-15 girl), Emma Labourne (1st under-17 girl) Joe Bennett  (2nd under-17 RS:X), Sam Sills (4th youth RS:X), Noelle Finch (1st under-17 RS:X girl) and all the rest of Team GBR. Follow the final race action live at windsurfing-cagliari2011.eu

Back home, today\’s first freestyle flick sees Jack Sawbridge and John Palmer bravely take on a super-gusty 50-knot West Kirby, as filmed by Tom Johnson – there\’s more on their day from John at k718.co.uk

Across the pond, check out river ripping Bryan Metcalf-Perez\’s full-on summer 2011 at Oregon\’s Columbia River Gorge, ably filmed by Casey Hauser and co from epicsessions.tv

But today\’s biggest release is this homage to World Freestyle Champ Steven Van Broeckhoven by his F2 teammate Andraz Zan – check that out now, then check them out at andrazzan.com and stevenvanbroeckhoven.com

And finally, it\’s time for the biggest rewind of the year – get ready for the dayglo, because here\’s Dave White\’s cut of the 1987 and 1994 Tiree Wave Classics. Lest we forget how BWA / PWA head judge Duncan Coombs used to do it back in the day…
