World-changing windsurfing news is still pretty slow today, so let\’s kick off with something unabashedly fast. Direct from the Luderitz Speed Challenge in Namibia, here\’s Anders Bringdal flying down the new 500m trench at 47.3 knots with a v-max of 50.7 earlier this week. As mentioned yesterday, the flying Swede is sounding positive at windsurfjournal.com – and the organisers still sound confident of a new record too at luderitz-speed.com
Following the last event of the season at Six-Fours in France, IFCA have full reports from the final EFPKT competition of 2011. In not so much wind, Julian Mas took the European Funboard Expression tow-in, while Steven Max won the under-15s and Rolien Caers the girls after just a single elimination. Overall for the season, this secures Steven Max the U15 crown, Yentel Caers U17, Tim Ruijsenaars U20 … and Britain\’s own Ike Bradley Baker is Under-13 European Freestyle Champion. Sarah-Quita Offringa has been nominated for the ISAF Rolex World Sailor of the Year Awards 2011 next week in Puerto Rico. The undisputed queen of PWA freestyle (and this season, slalom too) is up against round-the-world record breaker Dee Caffari, Britain\’s Alexandra Rickham and the USA\’s Anna Tunnicliffe in the female category. No windsurfers in the male category we\’re afraid, although you could root for Britain\’s Ben Ainslie if you\’re that way inclined?!? More at boards.co.uk
Talking of freestyle royalty, \’style princess Laure Treboux has released this flick of her latest training trip to Dahab in Egypt, as filmed by her brother. “I love that place, I love its people, and I love training there. So I always go back…” More from Laure at lauretreboux.com – and credit, once again, to eagle-eyed zakel.ws for spotting it.
There are a fair few homeboy updates from the Brit-pack today too: Timo Mullen analyses his 3rd place at Cornwall Wave Classic at star-board.com, Jamie Drummond\’s buzzing from a session on a new sandbank at West Wittering\’s Trench on jamiek787.com, RS:X Olympic campaigner Nick Dempsey has had a mad couple of weeks at volvocarssailing.co.uk, Chris \’Muzza\’ Murray muses on BWA Cornwall at k202windsurfing.blogspot.com, Adam Sims remembers NWF and Aussie Kiss at k669.blogspot.com, while Skyeboy and his bride Nayra Alonso are back to Maui at skyeboy.blogspot.com and nayraalonso.blogspot.com
And finally, let\’s finish with a true gent of British windsurfing as Peter Hart has released this video tour guide of his 2012 Masterclass clinics – Brazil, Dahab, Kerry, Rhodes, Donegal and Tiree… Much more from Pete at peter-hart.com
