News Headlines – Tue 15th

Voting has opened today for UKWA Windsurfer of the Year 2011: choose your best British rider of the season from five 2011 champions – Zara Davis, Kieran Martin, Ben Proffitt, Ant Baker and Adam Sims – and cast your vote at ukwindsurfing.com/woty

The November issue of Windsurfer International is now also live, containing pieces on transatlantic campaigner Sarah Hebert, Proffitt\’s new squeeze Justyna Sniady, and plenty more… But the big talking point is their groundbreaking interactive cover – have a swipe at Daida Moreno for yourself at windsurfermag.com

Hot (or should that be cold?) on the heels of the Student Windsurfing Association\’s Aussie Kiss Festival, last weekend saw another riotous rabble of undergraduates descend on Rutland Water for SWA Nottingham Pondlife VIII – check out a full pic gallery on boards.co.uk. Then get set for the next round of revelry at the end of this month in Bristol for Wet Dream III on studentwindsurfing.co.uk

Onto the international scene and ISAF have granted Class status to NeilPryde\’s one-design RS:One. “One sail one board – everyone competing on the same equipment. It\’s the rider that makes the difference”, say neilpryde.com … it\’s certainly a sound enough concept that could tempt the monied masses away from their dinghies – we\’ll see if windsurfing\’s \’Olympic Class Lite\’ catches on in 2012.

Over in Chile they\’ve just seen a slightly different breed of one-design racing as the the 2011 South American Formula Experience Championships finished early this month at Algarrobo. Peruvian racer Nicolas Schreier took the spoils from Chileans Eduardo Herman and Jose Miranda according to fe.internationalwindsurfing.com

We\’ll head some way north for today\’s first flick, as RRD / NeilPryde soulsurfer Fabrice Beaux hits Baja for the AWT Cactus Cup and some sublime glassy waveriding sessions with RRD teammates Jordan Reid and Royn Bartoldi – more on the trip at insidertrrding.blogspot.com. Talking of the AWT, JP are celebrating their Youth Champion Morgan Noireaux on jp-australia.com while Maui Sails honour a US Women\’s Champ in Ingrid Larouche at mauisails.com. Let\’s hop over to Fabrice Beaux\’s motherland of France for a Gallic double-bill, both from up north in Normandy. It\’s been light winds but decent groundswell for Witchcraft / 5-Oceans rider Pierre Fremion (pierrefremion.fr) at Le Rozel last weekend … and a week beforehand the Medez Crew of Frank Berthelot, Florian Martinez Jen Christophe Titren and the family Delaunay scored a couple of great-looking days in the area. And finally, to borrow the French – fin! To be more specific, K4 Fins … in detail, their new range of Andy Bubble Chambers Pro Freestyle fins. Here\’s the man himself K-540 to tell all and show what he\’s capable of with them. More Bubble at k540.com and K4 at k4fins.com
