News Headlines – Tues 17th

We kick off this morning’s news roundup with a video from the wind capital of Europe, Tarifa. The Tarifa Windsurfing Festival was recently held at Playa Chica and it looks like they scored some great conditions. Plenty of wave and freestyle action and a soundtrack guaranteed to wake you up! editors note: @1.37 – the closest we ever saw to a complete air shaka!

Ever wondered what it takes to be a PWA caddy? A lot of patience and preparation seems to be the key, as Dane Dennis Boisen helps out Italian Point-7/Patrik sailor Andrea Cucchi in Fuerteventura.

Next up is a really nice timelapse from Reflex Films Australia documenting Ben Severne constructing a sail from scratch and then putting it through it’s paces. Also featuring some party action from last year’s Lancelin Ocean Classic.

Speaking of Lancelin, the 2012 Ocean Classic has just wrapped up and, as we reported yesterday, it was Dutch sailor Peter Volwater who took first place in the marathon race, to scoop the $6000 prize. However, the winners of the wave fleets have been announced; PWA competitors Jaeger Stone and Laure Treboux took the top male and female spots respectively. Check out the marathon results here with more to follow at the LOC website.

The January transfer window still seems to be open in the windsurf world as Polish slalom sailor Maciek Rutkowsk joins the international Loft Sails team and UK Freestyler Jamie Drummond hooks up with Mystic.

Both sailors are off to Cape Town to train in freestyle and slalom, but word has it from Brit Sailor Bubble that the waves have been firing for the last week and show no sign of relenting. That report seems to be backed up by these photos from young gun Rick Jendrusch on Facebook. Poor old Bubble hasn’t even had a day off from sailing according to Twitter! Spare us a thought back here as winter finally arrives.

We wrap up the morning update with news that registration for the 2012 Defi Wind has officially opened. The long-distance windsurf event held in Gruissan, France will be running from the 17th to 20th May – sign up here.
