PKRA Round 3 Portugal

The 3rd round of the PKRA kicked off today in Portamao on the south coast of Portugal.  The wind forecast was looking very sketchy but on waking up this morning already 12 to 15knots cross onshore was blowing.

The event kicked off at 11.30am with the first 8 heats of the men.  The wind was just enough to stay upwind on 14m\’s, but as the day wore on the wind picked up and for a while around lunchtime it stayed around 20 knots.

With the wind cross onshore it made for choppy conditions, but the riding level was high.  Kevin Langeree was busting Kite loop slim chance, front mobes to blind and some super nice powered flat 3.  This earn\’t him a place in the final.

Aaron Hadlow was riding to his usual level busting out mobe 7\’s (2 full body rotations with two air handle passes), mobe\’s to wrapped, whirlybirds to blind.

Etienne Lhote gave him a run for his money and at one point I though he was going to take Aaron down, but it wasn\’t quite enough to beat the master!  Etienne then came up against Alvaro Onieva (Best) and Alvaro was onfire with a very solid pace.

1st Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil)

2nd Kevin Langeree (Naish)

3rd Alvaro Onieva (Best)

4th Etienne Lhote (F One)

Now lets talk about the girls!  Yes I want to talk about this because for once I got my act together and kited my little socks off!!!  I rode several solid heats in a row busting down loop s bends on both tacs, F16\’s, full powered raileys and surface handle passes from a s bend.  I had some close heats with riders such as Ania Grzelinska and Carolina Winkolska, but finally I pulled through and made it all the way to the final!!  STOKED!!!!!!! In the final against Kristin Boese I dropped my kite within the first 3 minutes and was unable to get it back out the slop.  Kristin on the otherhand bust out some sweet kite loops and surface handle passes and stopped me at 2nd place!!!!  Not bad though hey!

1st Kristin Boese (Best)

2nd Jo Wilson (Naish)

3rd Carolina Winkolska (Naish)

4th Brunha Kajia (Best)

Other riders from the UK were Emma York (Airush), but none of the others such as Neil Hilder or Lewis Crathern turned up.  Emma and I were unfortunately put against each other this round so I will keep you updated on her progress in the double.
