If you have been following the RS:X Europeans here then its finally all over. Nick Dempsey has dominated the mens racing in the shifty conditions, but it was the womens racing that has really gone to the wire.
Bryony Shaw has been keeping us up to date on the proceedings and was sitting pretty in 3rd place a fair bit behind Toni Frey of Greece in 1st place. The second, third and fourth places have been changing quite regularly.
Normally in a regatta like this Toni with over a big lead would have been sure of her victory, but to make things more exciting there is the medal race. The top ten of each race compete head to head and points count double. This makes things really exciting. Bryony Shaw actually won the womens race and Nick Dempsey came second. Nick consolidating his place at the top. Bryony won, but Toni Frey came 10th, her worst performance of the regatta meaning that she added 20 points to her position. She dropped to 4th overall in the Open Fleet and 3rd in the European. Now that is harsh, you have to feel for her!
Blanca Manchon of Spain actually won the womens fleet, Bryony second and Pauline Perrin of France 3rd. In the Mens second place went to Joeri Van Dijck and third to Nicolas Hueget
Bryony Shaw “I\’m so over the moon, two big trophies, two big medals and a nice watch. I came first in the medal race, I kept my head together, it was very shifty and tactical, I sailed well and kept it simple. Right now I\’m going to out to celebrate!”
