The Navman Speed Challenge is a speed sailing competition with a difference. Each competitor is armed with a Navman GPS unit. They sail in 20 minute heats with all the others from the same class, and then just blast!
The idea is to go as fast as possible, to get as higher speed as possible as recorded by the Navman GPS. Because it is sailing on the Maui open sea it is hard to get speeds above 40 knots. Current record holders are Anders Bringdal and Eric Beale with 39.3 knots.
This year Naish are presenting the event and Robbie Naish is the first to sign up to the challenge. It is open to anyone and runs from July 9th to the finishing party on September the 23rd. The racing is conducted as a 6 part series.
