Ian Edmondson – Challenge photographer reports:-
The wind was very light in the morning so we had to go out 15 miles in the end and even then she has to take her biggest kite, 15m Flexifoil. Things went very well all the way (one straight line tack) but coming into Dungarven the wind picked up alot. After travelling the distance dreya was totally maxed out on her 15m and could have been on her 9m so she was struggling to hold it down (at one point she lost her board and the wind was pulling her about 5 foot in the air.) Eventually she had to be bought back to shore by boat, but by this time she had already smashed the record by 25 miles. She was really disappointed, but it was just impossible for anyone to hold down so much power.
Thank you to all of the crew Simon and Steve with the boats, Mark who stepped in a a spare driver, Steve the cameraman, Jim, Karen, Judi and all the sponsors Veuve Cliqout, Extreme Accademy, White stuff, Air South West, and any one else I forgotten.
But most of all I\’d like to thank Layton for allowing his future bride to pull such a crazy stunt and DREYA for allowing me to be a part of the crew on another exhillerating journey.
