With Marcillo Browne snapped up by Gaastra sails it is no surprise that Naish Sails International were keen to get some big names on board. They don\’t come more well known than John Skye, one of the UK\’s most recognised windsurfers and top PWA allrounder, and Julien Taboulet, the crazy man from France.
We caught up with Skyeboy to find out more…
Is it just sails or sails and boards?
why the change?
North were happy to continue like last year, but the I felt a bit lost in their team. They have so many great sailors its hard to stand out. Plus they are really focused on results and whilst I hope to get some good results I offer alot more than just that. Naish see this as a really good thing and that was the most important reason for me. Plus I have heard great things about the gear and it all looks really nice. I am looking forward to getting my hands on it asap.
Which of the sails will you be using?
I\’ll be using the Force\’s on Jem Hall\’s recommendation!
Will you be in the UK more this year?
Yes I will be in the Uk more. This year snapped me, I spent the whole time getting sent pics of all the boys enjoying the constant wind, whilst I was somewhere else getting nothing!!
Will you be involved in R and D?
I don\’t know at the moment. Firstly I need to get used to the gear and then I am sure if I have any comments they will listen. it\’s always hard to give good feedback when you first start using the sails becasue you have to learn how they rig and sail differently.
Hows life in general?
Really nice. we (John and Nayra Alonso) have the apartment in GC much more homely now. Been surfing everyday in front of the house and loving it. There is a really nice long left for long baords and a pretty fun right for the short board. Plus as I said been loads of wind, nothing too special, but loads of 5.4 freestyley conditions.
John Skye joins the rest of the UK team on Naish International, Dan Ellis and Tristan Boxford.
