Four Nations Cup R2

Yes, the south coast may have been \’going off\’ with sailors ringing up fellow competitors bragging about it, but Rhosneigr finally came through with a surprise south-west breeze and head high waves giving perfect port tack jumping conditions.

The Youth & Junior fleets were sent out first and the battle continued between Sam Neal & Graham Woods in the Youth fleet. Aleksy Gayda stormed the Junior fleet and is really quite impressive in the waves for his age. But it was great to see so many Junior sailors ripping in the waves and really enjoying their first proper wave contest.

The Pros started official competition around 5pm. Ben Proffitt was keen to win this event hands down, being his local spot and also not competing at the Round 1 event in Brandon Bay due to injury. He was sailing solid and easily made the final along with Andy King, John Hibbard and Steve Thorp who has just returned to compeition after a break to concentrate on his Super Bike career!

The first final & therefore Round 1 went to Andy King with some clean backloops off the ramps and good wave selection. Ben came in second and was pushing for another round. Although it was getting late, the wind kept blowing and into Round 2 everyone went. This time Ben got his revenge beating Andy into second which leaves them on joint first. Steve Thorp and John Hibbard also shared third and fourth so are on joint second with one more day of competition to go.

Now onto the Ladies where new girl on the Tour, Janine Guest, took a suprise win! Louise Emery, Ruth Elliot & Janine all won a heat each but after the three rounds, Janine is leading overall with Louise in second, Ruth in third. She was absolutely delighted and was heard to say, “I didn\’t know competing was so much fun“. Well it is if you win!! Seriously, it has been a great day at Rhosneigr. From the light wind long board freestyle this morning to the full on wave contest in the evening, it has been a very relaxed but well organised day courtesy of the UKWA Crew and Funsport.

Forecast doesn\’t look great for Sunday but that\’s what they said about today!
