It\’s that time of year where what is meant to happen is that the Autumn equinox kicks in and we get loads of wind. Although in a slight twist of fate, the UK has no defined seasons anymore meaning that we are probably about to enter into Summer or maybe Spring.
Whatever happens the next month has got so much in store for windsurfers of every ability, 4 weekends and 4 Festival events. loads of stuff going on, loads of parties and all the 08 kit on show for trying and buying. The best bit of all is that there is plenty of opportunity to get together and sail with loads of windsurfers.
These events are targeted at everyone, not just seasoned competitors. There is competition, but everything else going on too.
So lets have a look at what there is too offer.
Event 1 – This Weekend Suffolk Xtreme
This weekend the East Coast hosts the Extreme fest. Freeriding and racing is part of the agenda, with other extreme skate sports on offer to try out plus the addition to scare yourself silly by climbing up some walls. This event is taking place at Felixstowe Pier under the driving force of Keith Atkinson.
Event 2 – August 27th – September 2nd Whiteair
WhiteAir… The WhiteAir has been building in momentum every single year since it started 11 years ago. It is usually held in October but has moved to the end of August to offer some warmer weather and even more events. This year will host part one of the UK Freestyle Championships and the Formula Worlds. WIth 21 different sports on offer, whatever the wind there will be some action on the water. There is also plenty going on off the water as usual including the extreme mountain board jumping, parties, bands and just a good atmosphere. For Full details try out the website. www.whiteair.co.uk
Event 3 – September 8th – 9th Fat Face Night Windsurf
Many people have said that this was the best event of last year, even the last 10 years. Some said ever. The fat face Night Windsurf got lucky last year and probably had the best conditions you could ever ask for. The wind steadily built during the day so that windsurfers of almost every ability could take part in the free for all Master Blaster. As it increased the conditions got more gnarly, the racing became survival and the pro\’s put on an aerial display just off the beach front to entertain the crowds. As night came, the lights went off and the night racing starting. The out to sea buoy was in pitch black and the racing was only seen by rave pop sticks. Nik Baker won the event and kicked off the party that went into the early hours. This event is going to be much the same, but with more clinics, and more demo gear on offer. Just turn up at the Inn on the Beach at Hayling and go sailing.
Event 4 – September 14th – 16th Poole Animal Windfest
The Animal Windfest is another legendary event, with 2 good parties, kicking off with the SAS butterfly ball on the Friday. Following this there are exhibitions, moutain bike freestyle, wakeboard and the second part of the British Freestyle Championships, where Andy Chambers will be defending his title. There are two freeride events for everybody to take part in though. The Animal Tag Team event – a bit like really, which will be very interesting and in the emerging trend for slalom, the Neil Pryde Slalom racing. Both events are for everyone of every ability to enter. The emphasis is on fun and beating your mates. Sunday is usually a laid back affair following the Saturday night party… Just turn up to Sandbanks early on Saturday Morning, pay entry fee for free camping and check out www.animalwindfest.co.uk
With so much going on their is absolutely no excuse to get to one of these events, they are very highly reccomended.
