Proffitt lead the Tiree Wave Classic (the third stop of the British Wavesailing Association tour) after the single elimination and didn’t let his lead slip in the double, but Horrocks charged through to challenge for the title:
The double elimination for the pro fleet took place at Balephuil in windy cross-on conditions, with most riders taking out their 4 – 4.5m sails in the shoulder to head high waves. Albert Pijoan had the comeback of the day, making it all the way through the draw to 6th position, but his run was finally ended by an on form Andy Bubble Chambers.
Chambers in turn was put out of the double elimination by Phil Horrocks, who was showing he had the skills in the fantastic jumping conditions. Phil, who started the day in 4th place was on a mission and rivalled Albert’s comeback, as he took out Adam Lewis and then his Gaastra/Tabou team leader Ross Williams!
This set up a classic Horrocks vs Proffitt final, and yet again things were extremely close. Horrocks had the edge on the jumping, but Proffitt took the win with some incredible wave rides.
The wind and waves are increasing through the day, so now it’s on with the women’s and amateur double eliminations, plus as the best conditions are set for the end of the day there will be a further expression session planned, where there’s still the chance to win the £100 pledged by Duncan Coombs for the first dry double landed!
