In spectacular style Pierre Mortefon and Marion Mortefon took top honours on the opening day of the 2015 Le Defi.
On the first day of Le Defi wind 1200 entrants made their way to the beach to be greeted by pleasant sunshine and a light 10 knot breeze. In just a matter of minutes and true to form the Tramontana kicked in with full force to provide 50 knots of pure gnarly racing conditions for those willing to take to the water.
Of 1200 entrants only 374 were able to finish, amongst them were the likes of Björn Dunkerbeck, Antonie Albeau, Jason Polakow, Sarah-Quita Offringa, Jules Denel, Patrik Diethem, Lena Erdil, Karin Jaggi, Diony Guadagnino to name but a few. With such a variety of competitors and something over 100 world titles on the race course there was some serious competition on the water.
Throw in 50 knots of Tramontana and you see who can really hold their own in the strong winds with a fierce amount of testosterone breathing down their neck.
“2015 Defi Wind Gruissan is ON! A victory for this first day of competition! Really happy to begin like that! Incredible conditions with 50+ knots, it was a big fight. Let’s see what tomorrow will give us with 10 more knots…” – Pierre Mortefon
“Happy to win the first round of Le Defi 2015 in a good 40-45 knots with my 4.0 Peak and my 87l Patrik! I’m quite proud to have finished 46th out of 1200 participants! It looks like we have 3 more days of the same conditions!” – Marion Mortefon
