For the second year in a row, the Windmeet french freestyle tour takes place in Le Brusc (Six-Fours les plages, France) at la Cahute Windsurf school. Adrien Bosson, PWA competitor and organiser of this event, got in touch with us to give us the low down, read on.
After two amazing windy events in Leucate (le Mondial Du Vent and at the Monteynard lake (Vincent Mellouet Memorial), the third event in Le Brusc (one of the best French freestyle spots) will be in September during a waiting period to guarantee the best conditions to run the freestyle competition. The 3 weekends are: 6/7th, 13/14th or 20/21th of September.
Last year the event took place the first weekend of may. We had a super nice weather to do light wind freestyle, SUP races and tow-in. But not enough wind to run the freestyle. After two good events, we are forced to do another good one, that’s why we voted for the waiting period. September in the South of France is usually a good month for windsurfing, the temperature is still very warm and some pressure systems travel back over Europe after the summer, this helps the local mistral winds to blow strong.
As a local I’m really sure that we will have some sick conditions for this French freestyle event. We already had some epic conditions this year. Right after the EFPT event in Austria, earlier this year, we had more than 30 knots (50 in the gusts) during four days of competition, here in Six-Fours Les Plages. In Monteynard, also with south winds, around 15-25 knots we managed to hold a good competition. To see all the results from the past events and the ranking, check here on: www.windmeet.com
The fight for the overall French Champion will be really hard as the level is really high. Especially with all the professional French freestylers and many other excellent French freestyle amateurs (which are all very good and can even beat the pros, the likes of Sam Esteve, Jordan Ema-Otu, Loic Viandier, Bastien Rama and many more).
With two more events; le Brusc and Gruissan, we will have one discard and so it’s even harder to get to the top! To ensure we run the competition in good conditions, we will send one alert the Tuesday before on our facebook page. Then we will follow up with a confirmation (or cancel) on Thrusday as to whether it will take place or not.
